Side is a captivating resort situated on the Mediterranean coast, roughly midway between Antalya and Alanya. It is home to a plethora of well-preserved ancient ruins, making it a popular destination for tourists interested in Hellenistic and Roman history. Additionally, the former Roman baths now serve as a local museum, boasting a collection of fascinating artifacts.\n\nThe city of Side was established in the 7th century BCE by Greek settlers from Kyme, a region located in Anatolia's northwestern region. The settlement's patron deity was Athena, and her image was depicted on Side's currency. Although the inhabitants were initially Greek, they gradually assimilated into the local culture, eventually losing their language and customs. Wide-angle view of the Arco Imperiale (Imperial Arch) in the archaeological complex of Grotte di Catullo, a Roman villa supposedly built by Latin poet Gaius Valerius Catullus between the end of the 1st century BC and the beginning of the 1st century AD at the northernmost end of the Sirmione peninsula, on the shore of Lake Garda. A perfectly clear sky, the warm, oblique light of a late afternoon, picturesque olive trees, the remains of columns and pillars lying on the ground. A long stretch of Lake Garda and its western shore can be seen at the distance. Palette based on a wide range of rich earthy tones, creamy yellows and pale cyans, with green and orange accents. The water collection/distribution chamber was built on the southern skirts of the acropolis, carved on bedrock. This structure consists of ten cell-chambers covered with paralel barrel-vaults. Every cell is 50 m long, 4 m wide and 18 m high with a capacity of 14,500 cubic meters.
