Detail of the medival bridge, in the town of Tobera Burgos, Castilla y León - Spain.
‎The bridge was built around 27 a.C. in relation to the reorganization and strengthening of the Via Flamina undertaken by Emperor Augustus. ‎‎Located just before the entrance of the Nera river in the narrow gorges between the spur on which stands the city of Narni and Monte Santa Croce, it is an important testimony of the Roman golden age.‎‎ ‎‎Of the bridge of Augustus are preserved today the first large arch, an imposing and monumental ruin, and a few other elements in the riverbed reduced to fragments by repeated collapses. The original shape was four different arcs of light. The road seat, with two roadways and sidewalks had to run over 30 meters above the level of the river, the width was to be about 8 meters and the length about 130 meters. ‎‎The relationship between the two dimensions immediately highlights a strong vertical development that generates the effect of great grandeur that still characterizes the ruins today. The bridge is built with large squared travertine blocks and ashlar head and cutting places according to Roman building techniques.‎‎ ‎‎ ‎\n‎A serious earthquake in 847 damaged the bridge and, subsequently a great flood, in 1053, caused its fall, from that moment in the sources it is remembered as ruptum or dirutus. ‎\n‎The last ruinous collapse occurred in the late afternoon of Tuesday, July 14, 1885.
