The Winona Bridge was constructed in the 1930s as part of the original Route 66 alignment. It served as a vital link for travelers heading westward during the heyday of Route 66, connecting various towns and cities across the United States. Eventually, it was bypassed by a newer bridge, and Route 66 was realigned. Despite being abandoned, the Winona Bridge retains its historical significance and charm.
