Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of the larger Mýrdalsjökull ice cap which lies atop the Katla caldera. It sits near the town of Vík í Mýrdal, a popular tourist location about 180km southeast of Reykjavik. The glacier is melting rapidly owing to warmer annual temperatures due to climate change. It is possible that many of the country's glaciers will become extinct within the next century.

Höfn, Iceland - August 20, 2017: A tourist explores the mountains near the lake of Jokulsarlon in Vatnajökull National Park. Jökulsárlón is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of the park. Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers. It is now 1.5 km (0.93 mi) away from the ocean's edge and covers an area of about 18 km2 (6.9 sq mi). It is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland.

Scenes along the Landmannalaugar hike offer a kaleidoscope of breathtaking vistas, encompassing otherworldly volcanic landscapes, vibrant rhyolite mountains, cascading waterfalls, and steaming geothermal springs, immersing hikers in the raw, untamed beauty of Iceland's highlands.

Fláajökull glacier, South East Iceland, is one of many glacier tongues flowing south from Vatnajokull glacier. There are several walking trails and rich birdlife area around Fláajökull glacier.
