Miquelon, Miquelon Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: Notre-Dame-des-Ardilliers Church in Miquelon is the main religious building on the island of Miquelon in the French archipelago of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Built entirely of wood between 1862 and 1865 to replace an earlier church, it has a rectangular plan topped with a gabled roof and a bell tower at the pediment. Inaugurated in 1865, it takes its name from Father Ardilliers and his sister, the nun of Notre-Dame-des-Ardilliers in Saumur, who contributed financially to the construction of the first church in Miquelon. Located near the port of the village of Miquelon in the north of the commune of Miquelon-Langlade, this Catholic church was consolidated at the beginning of the 20th century and has been under the jurisdiction of the diocese of La Rochelle and Saintes since 2018, following the abolition of the apostolic vicariate of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon.

Saint Pierre, Saint Pierre Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: town, corniche and harbor - aerial view of the the capital and largest town of the French overseas collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, located off the southern coast of Newfoundland, Canada. It serves as the administrative, commercial, and cultural center of the archipelago, and is home to the majority of its population. The town reflects a strong French identity, with architecture, language, and institutions closely aligned with those of metropolitan France. Fishing, especially for cod and crab, remains an important economic activity, alongside public administration and services. The port of Saint-Pierre also plays a key role in regional maritime transport and supply.
Saint Pierre, Saint Pierre Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: Catholicism is the predominant religion in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, reflecting the archipelago’s French cultural and historical roots. The territory falls under the jurisdiction of the Apostolic Vicariate of Iles Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, established in 1763 and later integrated into the Diocese of La Rochelle and Saintes in 2018. The Roman Catholic Church has historically played a central role in local life, with parish churches such as Saint-Pierre Cathedral serving as both religious and community landmarks. Religious observance has declined in recent decades, mirroring trends in mainland France, but Catholic traditions and holidays continue to shape the cultural calendar of the islands.

D.R. Congo, North Kivu. Coltan and manganese, are rare metals used to make mobile phones and computers. The market value is so high as to have aroused the interest of criminal organizations: in order to destabilize the political situation and take control of the mining business at a reasonable price, financial backing is given to armed groups waging war on one another. Nyatura soldiers control the territory, exploiting the local population and reselling its natural resources: the proceeds are used to buy other weapons that provide additional power, thus creating a vicious circle it is difficult to break. Nyatura survive by bullying, through abuse of power, abuse of civilians, raiding night and day and demanding tax on all forms of activity in the city of Rubaya. Soldiers patrol the territory around the Mudere mine where miners dig 20 meters underground. After workers transporting minerals to a nearby river where they are separated from rocks and sand before being sold to dealers.

Saint Pierre, Saint Pierre Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: view over the capital and most populous commune of the French overseas collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, an archipelago situated off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Settled by European fishermen in the 17th century, the town grew into a vital service and supply center for the region's fishing industry. During the Prohibition era in the United States (1920-1933), Saint-Pierre experienced a period of brief prosperity as a significant hub for alcohol smuggling. Today, the town remains the administrative and commercial heart of the collectivity, characterized by its colorful houses and a strong French cultural identity, despite its North American location. It serves as a gateway for visitors to the islands and continues to rely on fishing, though tourism is becoming an increasingly important sector of its economy.

The town features a blend of French and North American influences, reflected in its architecture, language, and daily life. Its port supports both fishing and limited commercial activities, while a small airport connects it to mainland Canada and France. Saint Pierre, Saint Pierre Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: a buoy tender is a specialized type of naval or coast guard vessel designed for the express purpose of maintaining aids to navigation. Its primary mission is to deploy, service, retrieve, and replace the buoys that mark channels, hazards, and safe passages for maritime traffic. To accomplish this, these vessels are equipped with cranes, powerful winches, and a open working deck, to handle the weight and bulk of the buoys and their mooring systems, which include heavy chains and concrete sinkers. The hull is typically designed for exceptional stability to counteract the significant list and trim changes that occur during heavy lifting operations, often in challenging sea conditions. Buoy tenders are essential for ensuring maritime safety and are operated by maritime authorities worldwide to keep shipping lanes accurately marked and operational.

Constructed in 1861–62 at the request of the then‑governor, the octagonal  tower stands approximately 11 m tall, painted white with a red horizontal band, topped by a red lantern and gallery. It functioned as the front range light of a pair guiding vessels into the port and remained active until 1984, though it remains in place today as a landmark. The lighthouse sits adjacent to a site formerly occupied by a 17th‑ and 19th‑century cannon battery.. Île aux Marins is a small, island located just off the coast of Saint-Pierre. Once home to a small fishing community. Its population gradually declined due to the centralization of services and economic activity in Saint-Pierre. Today, Île aux Marins serves primarily as a historical and cultural site, with several restored buildings, including a church, homes, and a museum, preserved as part of the archipelago’s heritage. The island is accessible by boat and attracts visitors interested in its maritime past and traditional architecture.

Saint Pierre Island, Saint Pierre et Miquelon: inland pond / bog ecosystem. The landscape is sparsely forested, with low shrubs and grasses lining the pond’s edge. The island of Saint Pierre, contains numerous bogs and marshes that are characteristic of its cool, humid maritime climate and glacially influenced terrain. These wetlands are nutrient-poor and acidic, supporting vegetation such as sphagnum mosses, sedges, dwarf shrubs, and aquatic plants like yellow pond lilies. Bogs typically occupy poorly drained depressions in the island’s interior, while marshes are found near low-lying coastal or inland areas where water flow is more variable. These ecosystems play an important ecological role by regulating water flow, storing carbon, and providing habitat for birdlife and amphibians. Although modest in scale, they reflect the subarctic biogeography of the region and remain largely undeveloped due to the island’s low population density and rugged landscape.

The museum documents Jewish culture and history in France, and the sign helps visitors navigate the neighborhood's cultural institutions. The scene conveys urban orientation, heritage, and museum access in central Paris.
