Beja Airport, Portugal: sonar buoys chutes - sonobuoys are used in anti-submarine warfare and submarine rescue - there are two main types, active buoys send out sonar pulses, which reflect off of the submarine, and the return is datal inked back to the aircraft, passive buoys listen for any radiated noise from the submarine contact - hydrophone sensors and stabilizing equipment are below the water surface, the buoy relays acoustic information from its hydrophone via UHF/VHF radio to operators on board the aircraft - Lockheed P-3 Orion aircraft, a military derivative of the Lockheed L-188 Electra. Artemis I, the first test of NASA's Space Launch System heavy lift vehicle sits on launch pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center on April 11 2022.
