St. Clement's has been praised as the grandest medieval building in the Western Isles. Founded in the late 15th century, it was built for the 8th chief of Clan MacLeod, Alasdair MacLeod of Dunvegan and Harris. His tomb is within a stone-carved recess inside the church.
