Magnificent sea Anemone (Heteractis magnifica) aka Ritteri anemone colonise this healthy underwater coral reef. When open these flared out Cnidarian discs reveal vast amounts of stinging tentacles used to stun and consume it’s prey. The tentacles also fascilitate photosynthesis of its symbiotic zooxanthellae, a second means of eating. The Anemone maintain a symbiotic relationship with the Anemone Clown fish (Amphiprion ephippium) as seen here. This captivating underwater photograph showcases a pair of vibrant clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) nestled within a magnificent sea anemone in the clear, tropical waters of Leyte, Philippines. The scene highlights the symbiotic relationship between the clownfish and the anemone, surrounded by the rich biodiversity of the coral reef. Ideal for marine life enthusiasts, this image brings attention to the beauty and complexity of the underwater world in this tropical paradise.
The underwater world is a fascinating ecosystem full of life and variation. This tropical coral reef is covered in Magnificent Sea Anemone’s (Heteractis magnifica) which in turn support Skunk Anemone fish (Amphiprion akallopisos). Above the reef is a massive bait ball of Glass fish which in turn becomes prey to larger fish. On the waters surface rays of light penetrate the clear blue water. A perfect demonstration of Nature’s food chain within a healthy ecosystem. Image taken whilst scuba diving at Ko Haa islands, Krabi province, which is one of Thailand’s best eco tourism destinations.

False Clown Anemonefishes Amphiprion ocellaris are hiding in the tentacles of a Sea Anemone Heteractis magnifica. \nAmphiprion ocellaris inhabits shallow and calm tropical lagoons of the Indo-Malaysian region, from the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, throughout South-east Asia and south to Australia in a depth range from 1-15m, usually 3-15m, max. length 11cm. It is one of the most popular marine aquarium fishes. \nHeteractis magnifica occurs in the Indo-Pacific Ocean, from the Red Sea to Samoa, in South East Asia, Northern Australia and the Western Pacific Regions, from Australia to the Ryukyu Islands in a depth range from 1-50m depth preferring the temperature range from 24-32 °C. Heteractis magnifica is the 2nd largest of all sea anemones. The oral disc reaches 100cm, but typical is 30-50cm. In captivity, the longest lifespan is 80 years, in the wild it is unknown, but its estimated that some individuals are hundreds of years old! The Clarki Anemonefish, also known as the Yellowtail Clownfish, is a popular tropical marine fish species that is native to the Indo-Pacific region, specifically the coral triangle. They are known for their bright orange color and distinctive white stripes with a black outline. As a symbiotic species, they form a mutualistic relationship with sea anemones, providing protection and food while receiving protection in return. Clarki Anemonefish are small and territorial, with an omnivorous diet. They can be aggressive towards other fish in their territory but are monogamous with their partners. They reproduce through eggs and larvae, making them a popular species for breeding in captivity. Due to their popularity in the aquarium trade and as the inspiration for the character Nemo in Finding Nemo, conservation efforts have been made to ensure their protection in the wild.
One Skunk Anemonefish Clown fish (Amphiprion ephippium) is in a Magnificent Sea Anemone (Heteractis magnifica). Coral reefs are the one of earths most complex ecosystems, containing over 800 species of corals and one million animal and plant species. The Anemone has stinging venom coated polyps, which the Anemone fish has the ability to cover its body with and use as protection from predators. In return, the Anemone fish constantly eats parasites from the Anemone, keeping it clean. A perfect demonstration of a symbiotic relationship in nature. The location is Phi Phi, Andaman Sea, Krabi, Thailand.

The species occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean from the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea to the east coast of Africa, eastward to the Marshall Islands, Samoa and Tonga; north to Ryukyu Islands; south to northern Australia in adepth range from 2-66m, max. length 10cm, commonly 6cm. \nThere is a SCUBA diver near the surface.\nTriton Bay, Indonesia, 3°51'45.882 S 133°57'46.59 E at 17m depth
