Purple Queen or Amethyst Anthias Pseudanthias pascalus occurs in the tropical Pacific Ocean from Bali to Australia and New Caledonia in a depth range from 5-60m, more common at oceanic islands than on continental reefs, max. length 20cm. The species forms plankton-feeding aggregations high about outer reef slopes with far more females than males. This specimen is a male. Palau, Micronesia, 7°7'43.90 N 134°13'34.61 Eat 10m depth

Golden Damsel Amblyglyphidodon aureus occurs in the tropical Western Pacific from Andaman Sea and Christmas Island in the Eastern Indian Ocean to Fiji, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to Rowly Shoals and New Caledonia in a depth range from 3-45m, max. length 13cm.\nJuveniles in small groups are often found among large sea fans. Adults occur in steep outer reef, occasionally in deep lagoons and along channel walls, usually in current prone habitats and where there are abundant gorgonian and long sea-whip corals on which they lay and guard eggs. The species feeds on zooplankton. \nMost of the time, a fish's behavior depends on its species. From time to time it is possible to meet exceptions, like this specimen, a very curious character, not shy at all, who kept looking at the camera.\nTriton Bay, Indonesia, 3°54'52.0617 S 134°7'21.3867 E at 9m depth

Adults of Napoleon Wrasse Cheilinus undulatus develop thick lips and a prominent bulbous hump on the forehead and can grow up to more than 2.2 meters. The species inhabits steep outer reef slopes, channel slopes and lagoon reefs. Primary food are mollusks, fishes, sea urchins, crustaceans and other invertebrates. Napoleon Wrasse is one of the few predators of toxic animals such as sea hares, boxfishes and crown-of-thorns starfish. Napoleon Wrasse is is seriously endangered, being hunted to the brink of extinction to feed a growing demand among wealthy Chinese diners for luxury live fish. Not wise, so crown-of-thorns starfishes take over and destroy the reefs. :-( Blue Corner, Palau, Micronesia, 7°7'57.66\

Streaked Spinefoot Siganus javus occurs in the tropical Indopacific Ocean from the Persian Gulf to southern China, Australia to Vanuata and New Caledonia in a depth range from 0-20m, max. length 53cm, common 30cm. The common name Rabbitfish is given by the similarity of the nose. \nThe species occurs in small schools of as many as ten individuals feeding on benthic algae. The streaked spinefoot has grooves in the spines of the dorsal, anal and pelvic fins which contain venom glands. The wound caused by these spines may be relatively painful to humans but is usually not dangerous. The spines are used in self-defense. Rabbitfish venom is similar to venom of stonefish. \n\nSiganus javus, sold as fresh fish, is caught using nets and fixed traps. \n\nThis specimen swam so fast that motion blur was unavoidable and the black coral forest in the background is barely visible. \n\nTriton Bay, Indonesia, \n3°53'58.5456 S 134°6'26.28 E at 12m depth
