Rome, Italy, July 15 -- A view of the Roman Pantheon and Piazza della Rotonda in the heart of the Eternal City, with dozens of tourists and the outdoor tables of typical Italian restaurants. Built in 27 BC by the Consul Marco Vispanio Agrippa for the emperor Augustus and dedicated to all the Roman divinities, the majestic Pantheon is one of the best preserved Roman structures in the Eternal City and in the world. The fountain in the center of the square, with a real Egyptian obelisk, was built by the sculptor Leonardo Sormani in 1575 on a project by the architect Giacomo della Porta. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition format.
