$Side view of the Fame of the Arts on Pont Alexandre III. The Pont Alexandre III is a deck arch bridge that spans the Seine in Paris. It connects the Champs-Élysées quarter with those of the Invalides and Eiffel Tower.\nFour gilt-bronze statues of Fames watch over the bridge. The socles are crowned by Fames restraining Pegasus: Fame of the Sciences (Renommée des Sciences) and Fame of the Arts (Renommée des Arts) on the Right Bank; Fame of Commerce (Renommée du Commerce) and Fame of Industry (Renommée de l'Industrie) on the Left Bank.$

$Standing atop a 40-foot marble pylon is this gilded sculpture group representing the victorious Columbia Triumphant (the United States.) She is in a seashell-shaped chariot pulled by three hippocampi, mythical figures with the front half of a horse and the rear half of a fish. Columiba’s left hand holds aloft a sprig of laurel leaves, symbolizing victory. Her right hand holds a fasces, a roman symbol representing government power. A shield is strapped to her back. The height of the group is fourteen feet. \n\nAs with all the sculptural work on this monument, the artist was Attilio Piccerilli (1866-1945.) For his figure of Columbia, as well as two other figures for this monument, his model was Audrey Munson. \n\nMunson posed for more than a dozen important statues, sculptures, and friezes, most of which still stand to this day across Manhattan and Brooklyn. She is now often called “America’s First Supermodel.”$
