The Campi Flegrei caldera is a supervolcano [as outlined in the image on the right]. Although there’s no picture-postcard volcanic cone, hidden beneath the seemingly placid landscape lies a volcano of immense power. While a new eruption here would be more likely to result in the creation of another Vesuvius-like cone, the worst-case scenario could see it obliterating much of life in Europe

There are countless fumaroles on the brown mountainside, and the sight of white smoke containing sulfur rising from them is very impressive. As the smell of sulfur fills the air, you can go very close to the fumaroles, allowing you to experience their dynamic power up close.

Tourists on rainy day at Sulfur Mountain which is an active volcano not far from Lake Mashu and is part of Akan National Park on north Japan. In front of them is fence with warning sign that is dangerous to enter the smoking, steaming area. Iozan Volcano area surroundings are yellow from sulfur.
