A lobster trap, lobster pot or lobster cage is a portable trap that traps lobsters or crayfish, here on the beach by the Atlantic Ocean in Maine, USA.

A pier wharf filled with lobster traps that has collapsed. The wharf is broken in the middle, and traps have fallen into the bay at low tide.

A discarded fishing creel or trap is polluting this otherwise clear ocean. Trapped within are squid eggs and small creatures. This represents the massive environmental disaster that is Global Ocean Pollution and ‘Ghost Nets’. Ghost nets or Ghost Gear is one of the largest threats to our ocean ecosystems responsible for the deaths of huge amounts of Marine Life through entanglement and consumption. Nearby two scuba divers are swimming beneath the water’s surface. Location is Ko Haa, Andaman Sea, Krabi province, Thailand.

Lobster Pots

Looking into the centre of a lobster pot, known as a fishing creel in Scotland. Stored on a harbour wall in Tobermory, on the island of Mull. It is used to catch lobsters and crabs. The intricate diamond shaped netting has a wide entrance that becomes narrower, leading through to the main part of the basket, where the crustacean becomes trapped. The outer netting is greenish blue, becoming pale towards the middle metal ring which has rusted and caused the net to stain rust coloured. The creel is lowered into the sea, at certain points along the coastline, with bait inside.
