Apparently it requires specific climatic conditions for seed stored in the soil to germinate. It is reported that it flowers for one season a year after a fire if there has been rain.$

Flowers pink, occasionnally white, 6-10mm, rather bell-like, borne on long slender stalks.\nHabitat: Damp turf, bogs, marshy ground, spring flushes and pool margins, woodland rides, on acid soils, to 1200m.\nFlowering Season: may-September.\nDistribution: W Europe, Britain and the Faeroes, generally local. Cultivated in Gardens. The flowers open widely in sunshine.\n\nThis Picture is made in my Garden Pond. The Species is quite seldom in the Netherlands.$
