Related to mountain ash is the English whitebeam (Sorbus aria ). There is much similarity and variability between groups of ( Sorbus ) trees. These clusters of red autumn berries appear in autumn by roadsides in Surrey, Merton, England. Whitebeam is often planted along pavements, and these rich autumn colours are one reason. The large, bright red fruits help to feed birds through the winter.
