They are particularly common in national parks such as Manuel Antonio National Park.\n\nAppearance:\nThey resemble North American raccoons, but are often slightly smaller. They also have the typical gray-brown fur, curled tail and black face mask.\n\nBehavior:\n\t- They are nocturnal, but in tourist areas such as beaches or campsites they also become active during the day as they can easily find food there.\n\t- Raccoons in Costa Rica have learned to open bags, backpacks and garbage containers, which makes them popular - but also notorious - among tourists.\n\t- They are good climbers and swimmers and very curious.\n\nDiet:\nIn Costa Rica, raccoons eat crabs, fish, insects, fruit, eggs and anything that humans leave lying around - including potato chips and fruit scraps.\n\nSpecial features:\n\t- In Costa Rica, raccoons often live close to other wild animals such as coatis or capuchin monkeys.\n\t- They should not be fed, as this alters their natural behavior and can lead to conflicts.$
