Santa Cruz, Flores Island, Azores, Portugal: the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, serves as the principal parish church and was constructed between 1781 and 1859 on the site of a primitive temple, under the initiative of its first vicar, Father Manuel Lourenço Vieira. The church, classified as a Property of Public Interest, features significant dimensions by Azorean standards, including a principal rectangular body with a narrower chancel, two bell towers topped by bulbous octagonal cupolas, and annexes forming L-shaped extensions, all built in masonry and stonework plastered white with contrasting stone decorative elements. Architecturally Revivalist in style, it has a facade divided into three levels by cornices and vertical sections by pilasters, with ornate doorways framed by columns and lintels, guillotine windows, and an oculus; the interior comprises three naves separated by arches on square pillars, a high-choir, blue-painted wooden vaulted ceilings, and Neoclassic gilded woodwork retables in the main chapel, making it one of the archipelago's most impressive religious structures.

Horta, Faial Island, Azores, Portugal: the Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, also known as the Church of Our Lady of Carmel, is a historic Baroque and Rocaille-style religious structure, forming part of the former Convent of Nossa Senhora do Carmo complex. Construction of the convent began in 1652 under the patronage of D. Helena de Boim, wife of Captain-Major Francisco Gil da Silveira, who donated land and possessions to the Order of the Brothers of Mount Carmel to establish a hospice for friars and a chapel initially dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Boa Nova; the church itself was built starting in the late 17th century, with completion and opening to worship occurring by 1751 in the 18th century. Architecturally, the masonry building features a principal facade with two bulbous bell towers on octagonal bases, divided into three floors with cornice decoration, a single-nave interior leading to a narrower vaulted chancel flanked by lateral chapels.
