Photographed this beautiful King vulture while drying its wings in the wild rain forest at Boca Tapada, Costa Rica.

The yellow-headed vulture is 53 to 65 centimeters long and weighs between 950-1550 g. It has a wingspan of 1.60 meters.The coloring of the body and wings is similar to that of the wood vulture (Cathartes melambrotus). From a distance, the head appears light yellow, almost white. It has less feathering on the neck, a shorter tail and brown tones in its plumage. The plumage on the inner part of the wings has a uniform color, unlike the plumage of the wood vulture (Cathartes melambrotus), which has light and dark feathers.The juvenile has a black head.
