Natural Bridge is One of Several Natural Arches in Bryce Canyon and Creates a Beautiful Scene at this viewpoint.
Bryce Canyon in southern Utah, USA, is known for its distinctive geological features: hoodoos. They are tall, thin pillars of sandstone and fine sedimentary rocks that protrude from the bottom of arid basins. Formed by frost-wedging and stream erosion of river and lake bed sedimentary rocks, they have shaped its landscape over millions of years. Rock colors are the result of the oxidation of different minerals within the limestone. The canyon's formation is attributed to the processes of frost-wedging and stream erosion, which have shaped its landscape over millions of years. Bryce Canyon is part of the larger Colorado Plateau and sits at a high elevation, providing diverse and scenic views. \nPicture taken in late March with snow still on the ground, and clouds in the sky.

Bryce Canyon National Park in Southwestern Utah is famous for the largest collection of hoodoos in the world. These hoodoos are tall skinny shafts of rocks that protrude from the bottom of arid basins. At Bryce Canyon, hoodoos range in size from that of a human, to heights exceeding a 10-story building.

Bryce Canyon is not actually a canyon, but rather a collection of giant natural amphitheatres along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in southwestern Utah. It is well known for its large amount off bizarre rock spires and pinnacles known as Hoodoos, which formed from the erosion of the limestone of the Claron Formation. Legend though claims that these pinnacles were people, who were so bad and evil that the Coyote turned them to stone.

Though the name tends to be misleading, Natural Bridge is one of several natural arches in Bryce Canyon and creates a beautiful scene at this viewpoint. This arch, sculpted from some of the reddest rock of the Claron Formation (rich in iron oxide minerals), poses a stark contrast to the dark green of the Ponderosa forest that peeks through the arch from the canyon below. Bridges form through the erosion of rock by streams or rivers. This window or arch formed from a combination of processes. Frost wedging, the expanding of cracks in rock as water turns to ice, weakened the rock. Dissolution, the chemical dissolving of rock by rainwater, chewed away at the top and sides of this wall of rock. Finally gravity pulled loose the weakened pockets of rock at the center creating the hole you see. Thus, Bryce Canyon's 'bridges', including Natural Bridge, are spectacular examples of arches that, like the hoodoos, are constantly at risk of destruction as the forces of erosion continue to wear the rock away.
Massive stone spire called Thor's Hammer stands over 150 feet tall in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah. Thor's Hammer was created over thousands of years of erosion.
