I took this picture on a ski trip to the Whistler Blackcomb Mountains. I told a friend of mine - a big skier - that I was going there. He wanted to see some good pictures. So I took my Nikon on the slopes with me and starting shooting pictures. I was drawn to this particular formation because it reminded me of skiing scenes from the Dolomite mountains in Italy. People who have looked at this picture are pretty certain it is a scene from the French Alps. Rather, it is one of the Cascade mountain range, and that is why I think this picture is unique. You could be dropped here by parachute and think for sure that you are on the border of France and Italy. The rock formation on the far left is most interesting. It has the appearance of a crude mask with angry eyebrows and a downturned smile. Its top is perfectly rounded to form a forehead. Upon closer inspection of the picture, I remembered seeing two skiers on the steep slope, one in red clothing. Judging from the undisturbed snow, it looks like this is an out of bounds area. I notice these things because I am not a good skier, and seeing people who can tackle this alpine bowl amazed me. They are quite literally dots on this snowscape and provide a sense of scale to this unique and enormous mountain formation. BTW, the guy who asked me to take these pictures never asked to see them. But I love them. The sky was perfect for good photography.
