$Photo taken at an altitude of 1,050m, near Le Sauze-du-Lac, with the Grande Séolane in the far background.\nOn the left, the Pic de Morgon (2324m) and on the right, Dormillouse (2505m).\n\n1955 marked the beginning of construction of the earth dam; work lasted five years, with the lake being filled in 1961. The dam's primary purpose was to generate electricity, but also to regulate the turbulent waters of the Durance and Ubaye rivers. In addition, this 28.2 km² water reserve would allow for the irrigation of fields located downstream of the dam via the Durance Canal, and provide drinking water.$
