Jiuzhaigou Valley is a nature reserve and national park in the north of Sichuan, a province in south western China. It is known for its many multi-level waterfalls and colorful lakes, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. It belongs to the category V (Protected Landscape) in the IUCN system of protected area categorization.

Turquoise waters at Double dragon lake in the Shuzheng Valley, the northern branch of Jiuzhaigou. The Jiuzhaigou valley in Sichuan, China, was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997.

Jiuzhaigou National Park, aka Jiuzhai Valley National Park or Jiuzhaigou Valley, is located in Jiuzhaigou County, 450 kilometers north of Chengdu (the capital of Sichuan province).Jiuzhaigou National Park offers a dreamlike scenery, which combines translucient lakes, waterfalls, verdant forests, snow-covered mountains, and the folk customs of the Tibetan and Qiang peoples. According to old tales the deity of mountain named Dago had a crush on the goddess Semo, and he gave a mirror that was made from wind and cloud to the goddess. However, the devil appeared and made trouble to Semo. Inadvertently, Semo broke the mirror into 108 pieces, which fell down to the earth and then turned to 108 colorful lakes. The lake is also called Haizi by local people.
