The famous Fontana delle Naiadi (Fountain of the Naiads) in the center of Piazza della Repubblica (Republic Square), in the heart of the historic center of Rome, in one of the most known and visited districts of the Italian capital at border of the Monti district. The Fountain of the Naiads was built in 1870 during the pontificate of Pope Pius IX, a few days before the conquest of Rome by the troops of the Kingdom of Italy and the end of the temporal power of the papacy. The porticoed buildings that surround the square were built between 1887 and 1898 by the architect Gaetano Koch. Piazza della Repubblica is located in the area of the Baths of Diocletian, the most impressive spa area of ancient Rome, and the central Via Nazionale boulevard. This area of the city is also famous for the presence of numerous luxury hotels and high fashion shops. Image in high definition format.
