Rome, Italy, February 03 -- A suggestive glimpse of Piazza della Rotonda and the Roman Pantheon, in the historic heart of the Eternal City, with some tourists lining up to visit the famous temple and the typical outdoor tables of Italian restaurants. Built in 27 BC by the Consul Marco Vispanio Agrippa for the emperor Augustus and dedicated to the Roman gods, the majestic Pantheon is one of the best preserved Roman structures in the Eternal City and in the world. The fountain in the center of the square (right), with a real Egyptian obelisk, was built by the sculptor Leonardo Sormani in 1575 on a project by the architect Giacomo della Porta. Rome, Italy, October 01 -- The suggestive view over the rooftops of Rome from the terrace of the monumental staircase of Trinità dei Monti, better known as Spanish Steps, in the historic and baroque heart of the Eternal City. A masterpiece of the late Roman Baroque, the monumental staircase was built in 1721 to connect the church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti on the hill with the underlying Piazza di Spagna (Spain Square). Designed by the architect and urban planner Francesco De Sanctis, the Spanish Steps were inaugurated by Pope Benedict XIII on the occasion of the Jubilee of 1725.
