Arothron stellatus, also known as the stellate puffer, starry puffer, starry pufferfish, or starry toadfish, is a demersal marine fish belonging to the family Tetraodontidae. It is found in shallow water in the Indo-Pacific region.
he map puffer (Arothron mappa), also known as the map pufferfish, scribbled pufferfish, or Kesho-fugu, is a demersal marine fish belonging to the family Tetraodontidae. The map puffer is typically found in tropical and subtropical waters from the Indian Ocean to the western Pacific Ocean. This fish contains tetrodotoxin, a potent and deadly chemical compound used to ward off predators. Despite being highly poisonous, the map puffer can be found both in the aquarium trade and certain food markets.
One very large Giant Pufferfish (Arothron stellatus) is swimming on a vibrant coral reef. Also known as the stellate puffer, starry puffer, or starry toadfish, these are demersal marine fish belonging to the family Tetraodontidae and a favourite of scuba divers. Image taken whilst scuba diving at Koh Haa, Andaman sea, Krabi province, Thailand.
Starry Puffer Arothron stellatus occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea and East Africa eastward through Indonesia to the Tuamotus, northward to southern Japan, southward to Lord Howe Island in a depth range from 3 to 58 m, max. total length 120cm, common length 54cm. \nThe species is relatively uncommon in patch reefs and coral slopes near sandy areas of clear lagoon and seaward reefs. Juveniles occur in sandy and weedy inner reefs, adults on clear lagoons and seaward reefs. \nStarry Puffers are poisonous to eat for humans. \nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°28'56.394 N 125°15'15.588 E at 7m depth

Tetraodontidae is a family of primarily marine and estuarine fish of the order Tetraodontiformes. The family includes many familiar species variously called pufferfish, puffers, balloonfish, blowfish, blowies, bubblefish, globefish, swellfish, toadfish, toadies, honey toads, sugar toads, sea squab.
The Yellow Boxfish Ostracion cubicus occurs in the tropical and subtropical Indopacific in lagoon and semi-sheltered seaward reefs in a depth range from 1-280m, but usually not deeper than 50m, max. length is 45cm. \nFrom the juvenile to the adult fish there is a big change in shape and color. This cube-shaped juvenile specimen would fit easily into a walnut. He swims over Flowerpot Coral Goniopora sp. \nThe omnivorous species feeds on marine algae, worms, crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish.\nOstracion cubicus is a solitary species considered relatively poor swimmer and for this reason, developed protection via toxin release: When stressed or injured it releases poisonous proteins from its skin that may prove lethal to any fish in the surrounding waters. The bright yellow color and black spots are a form of warning coloration (aposematism) to any potential predators. \nFlowerpot Corals Goniopora sp. occurs in the Indian and Pacific Oceans; from the coast of Mozambique, to the Red Sea, and east to northern Australia, southern Japan and Hawaii. \nThe appearance of this pretty coral belies its aggressive behavior. Colonies may be meters across and sometimes whole sections of a reef face are covered exclusively by one branching Goniopora species.\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°29'20.988 N 125°14'23.226 E at 22m depth

Reticulated Pufferfish Arothron reticularis occurs in the Indo-West Pacific from India eastward through Indonesia to New Guinea, northward to southern Japan, southward to northern Australia in a depth range from 1-25m, max. length 45cm. The solitary species is often encountered in shallow water reefs near sand or seaweed areas. And also found in estuaries and protected muddy bays. This specimen was encountered at the Iro Wreck. The oil tanker Iro, a 143 meter wreck since March 1944, WWII, was ordered by the Japanese Navy during the 1920´s building programs. Although heavily overgrown with black coral and sponges, the torpedo hole is still clearly visible. The hull of the wreck stands upright between 15 m and 36 m water depth, the masts reach into shallow water. Palau, Iro Wreck 7°17'39.7 N 134°25'15.18 E at 22m depth
