Large adults are pelagic and probably associated with drifting debris. \nThe species feeds on zooplanktons and small crustaceans. The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail. The use in traditional Chinese medicine is increasing with the rise in patent medicines. So Thorny Seahorse Hippocampus histrix has most recently been assessed for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2017. \nThis specimen was encountered in the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°28'56.394 N 125°15'15.588 E at 20m depth$
