It will be part of the new World Trade Center complex with four more skyscrapers and a memorial to the September 11th attacks in 2001. The names of the 2977 victims of the attack on 2001 and also those killed on the 1993 attack are engraved in stone around the pool  that were placed were once the towers stood.

A dedication ceremony commemorating the tenth anniversary of the attacks was held at the memorial on September 11, 2011, and it opened to the public the following day. The museum was dedicated on May 15, 2014 Six days later, the museum opened to the public.
