The Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London, was established in 1873 on the site of the former Royal Hospital for Seamen, itself designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the late 17th century. For over a century it served as a training center for officers of the Royal Navy until its closure as a naval college in 1998. Today, the site, part of the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site (designated in 1997), is home to the University of Greenwich and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, with the magnificent Painted Hall and Chapel remaining major historic attractions.
