The dramatic sandstones of the Garden of the Gods are sedimentary rocks, formed about 300-260 million years ago from horizontal layers of red, pink, and white sandstone, conglomerate and limestone deposits were later tilted vertically by the uplifting forces of the Rocky Mountains and eroded by wind, rain, and ice into the dramatic, towering rock formations that are seen today.
