$Pistacia vera (L., Anacardiaceae, or sometimes Pistaciaceae) is a small tree of the genus Pistacia, native to the mountainous regions of Syria, Turkey, Iran and western Afghanistan, which produces an important nut for culinary use called pistachio, pistachio, pistachio nut, alfóncigo, alfónsigo.\n\nPistacia vera is often confused with other species of the genus Pistacia. They can be distinguished from P. vera by their original geographical distribution and by their smaller fruits, with an intense turpentine flavour and a hard pericarp (shell).$
