Very variable short to medium, hairless perennial, occasionally very slight hairy; stems erect. Basal leaves linear-lanceolate to elliptical, stalked, toothed; stem leaves lanceolate to linear, often untoothed, the uppermost unstalked. Bracts oval, toothed or untoothed, variable in size. Flowers blue to violet-blue, in rounded heads, the corolla strongly incurved in bud; styles 2-3 lobed.\nHabitat: Dry grassland, often closely grazed, rocky places, grassy banks and waysides, generally on calcareous soils, to 2600m.\nFlowering Season: June-August.\nDistribution: S.
