Phlox paniculata, also called as garden phlox, fall phlox, and summer phlox, is an upright perennial that grows in a clump to 2-4' tall on stiff stems clad with conspicuously veined, opposite, pointed, deep green leaves. Fragrant, tubular, pink, purple to white florets are densely packed in large, tiered, domed terminal clusters over a June to August bloom period. Each individual floret has a long corolla tube and five flat petal-like lobes.

It is a deciduous tree that grows in calcium-based soils produced by weathering of limestone. It is not cold-resistant and is endemic to China. It is distributed in the Yellow River basin and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin. It is rare to the north of the Haihe River basin and cannot grow in silica-based acidic red soil areas.
