Coilostylis ciliaris (Fringed Star Orchid), formerly Epidendrum ciliare, is a species of orchid in the genus Coilostylis.  It is the type species of the genus Coilostylis.
Epidendrum orchids contain more than 1,000 different species. Their name comes from the Greek words “epi” and “dendron,” meaning “on a tree.” Most epidendrum orchids are epiphytic species so they usually grow on trees. The orchid collects nutrients from the air and surrounding surfaces through its exposed roots and is one of the easiest orchids to care for. Epidendrum can also be exposed to full sun.
