Small white flowers in the leafage of Ligustrum vulgare in mid June
6 september 2025, Yutz, Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, Grand Est, France. It's summer. In a pasture where a herd of cows has spent the entire season, few flowers survive the grazing and trampling and manage to thrive. Thistles, in general, overcome all these difficulties because they are left untouched by the ruminants, like this Black Thistle. It's a small, not very tall thistle, and this one only has a few flower heads left. Despite its size, you can also see its fleshy leaves with well-formed spines, which explains why it isn't eaten.
