Pavonia multiflora, also called Many flowers and Brazillian candle, is a flowering plant in the mallow family Malvaceae. True to its name, many flowers appear almost year-round, growing upward, with the narrow red bracts revealing the rolled purple flowers and its stamen.

The plant in the photo is called Pink pavonia Although it is native to South America, it also grows wild in Japan, where it blooms with white flowers in the summer. This name was given because the shape of the leaves resembles an arrowhead.

A number of buildings are built into the hilly landscape and tower above lower buildings.  Image taken during the day in late spring looking up Rua Ferraria.  Sintra is a popular destination for day trips from Lisbon and on the weekend it is a very busy town. Tourists and shoppers can be seen along the street and climbing the stairs to shop further uphill.
