Red poppy (Papaver rhoeas) also known as common poppy, Flanders poppy, corn poppy, corn rose, field poppy and Odai, is an annual herbaceous flowering plant in the poppy family Papaveraceae. In this plant stems hold large and showy single flower with four slightly overlaping petals that are vivid red, most commonly with a black spot at their base. Flower stems are usually covered with coarse hairs that are held at right angles to the surface. The capsules are hairless, obovoid (egg-shaped), less than twice as tall as they are wide, with a stigma at least as wide as the capsule. Plant exudes white to yellowish latex when the tissues are broken.

$Medium, rough-hairy annual, usually branched. Leaves pinnately-lobed, with narrow, toothed divisions. Flowers scarlet, 7-10cm, the petals overlapping, often with a black blotch at the base, anthers bluish; flower stalks with spreading hairs. Capsule rounded, hairless.\nHabitat: Cultivated fields, waste places, field boundaries, roadsides.\nFlowering Season: June-October.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, local in Wales and Scotland.\n\nCorn Poppy is a typical Summer Plant that stands along Dykes and so on. The red color gives a very summer feeling. Corn Poppy is known as a Medical Plant.$
