The cathedral of Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is a Catholic cathedral church located in the historic center of the French city of Strasbourg. The cathedral, like almost all Gothic cathedrals, is dedicated to the cult of the Virgin Mary, restored since the late seventeenth century after the period of Protestant worship that began in the sixteenth century. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.The building, owned by the French State, which declared it a Historical Monument in 1862 and seat of the Diocese of Strasbourg, was built over four centuries, between 1015 and 1439, and is considered an outstanding example of late Gothic architecture, accumulated by the mastery of different architects who came successively from Burgundy, the kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire for its construction, combining the styles of works such as those of Sens, one of the first Gothic, Chartres, Notre-Dame de Paris, Notre-Dame de Reims and others from Swabia or Bohemia.
