Matsue, Japan - April 14, 2024: Matsue (Japanese: 松江市, Hepburn: Matsue-shi) is the capital city of Shimane Prefecture, Japan, located in the Chūgoku region of Honshu.\nMatsue Castle was constructed from 1607 to 1611 during the early Edo period. It is one of few remaining feudal Japanese castles that retains its main keep in its original wooden form and not a modern concrete reconstruction. Shachihoko are mythical half dragon half fish sea creatures that are said to bring rain. They were typically placed on the roofs of castles and the homes of samurai to protect them from fire. On Matsue Castle, the male shachihoko stands on the left and the female on the right.
