Petroglyphs in the Capitol Reef National Park.
Just outside Arches National Park and Moab in Utah along the Colorado River and Potash Road, a sandstone wall of Native American petroglyphs by the Southern San Rafael Fremont culture between made between 600 and 1300 A.D. stand untouched.
New Mexico has some of the flattest land as well as some of the most rugged mountains in the country. Some portions of the state are rich in pine forests, meadows, and fish-laden mountain streams, while other areas are devoid of any water bodies, and even cacti struggle to survive.

The high cliffs in Canyon de Chelly are vibrant with deep orange color of stain. Desert varnish or rock varnish on exposed rock surfaces is composed of clay minerals. The early fall color change with the Cottonwood trees add to the scenic.
