Oslo, Norway: Akershus Fortress (Akershus festning) - a 14th century fort located on the Akersneset peninsula directly on the banks of the Oslofjord. Akershus was besieged nine times and came under German occupation during the World War II. The fortress was for centuries also a feared prison. At present it hosts also the pantheon for the current Norwegian royal family.
