$Bayon Temple is a striking and enigmatic temple complex located at the heart of Angkor Thom, the ancient capital city of the Khmer Empire in present-day Cambodia. Built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, the temple is renowned for its towering stone faces and intricate carvings.\n\nThe temple was built by King Jayavarman VII, who sought to create a temple that represented both his Buddhist beliefs and the power and might of the Khmer Empire. Bayon Temple is therefore a unique blend of Buddhist and Hindu iconography, with over 200 carved faces of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, and numerous scenes from Hindu mythology.$
