The toco toucan (Ramphastos toco) is a species of bird in the toucan family Ramphastidae. It is the largest species of toucan and has a distinctive appearance, with a black body, a white throat, chest and uppertail-coverts, and red undertail-coverts. Its most conspicuous feature is its massive beak, which is yellow-orange with a black base and large spot on the tip. It is endemic to South America, where it has a wide distribution from the Guianas south to northern Argentina and Uruguay.

$Popular name: Toco-toco, toucanuçu;\n\nScientific name: Ramphastos toco;\n\nSpecies characteristics: The Toco Toucan belongs to the Ramphastidae family, has a length of up to 55 cm and can weigh up to 600 grams. These animals do not have sexual dimorphism, and their main distinguishing feature is the elongated orange beak, which can measure up to 20 cm;\n\nHabitat and geographic distribution: These animals have a wide distribution in the Brazilian territory, found mainly in canopies of the Tropical Forest of South America of the Cerrado biome and the Atlantic Forest.\n\nFeeding: These animals have a diet based on fruits, insects and arthropods, however they can feed on eggs from the chicks of other birds.\n\nReproduction: These animals reproduce in late spring. The nest is built high in tree trunks, hollow or in holes, or even in ravines or termite mounds. Females lay 4 to 6 eggs inside the nest which is incubated for 16 to 18 days. The couple takes turns to hatch the eggs, and the male undertakes to feed the female during this period.\n\nConservation status: Not threatened at the moment.$
