Migratory, main movements in Oct-early Nov and Apr-May.\n\nIn the Netherlands this beautiful small Goose is quite common in particularly grasslands in the IJsselmeerpolders and along our Coasts and Rivers. For some decades the Birds over summer in small numbers and is not always to be seen if they are wild Birds. \n\nThis Picture is made during a short Stay on the Isle of Texel in October 2021.

Pair of barnacle geese and their goslings. The female lays between 4 and 6 eggs once a year in a nest on a high cliff top, or rocky outcropping. The female incubates the eggs for 3 to 4 weeks, while the male collects food and protects the nest. A few hours after hatching the goslings are lead down from the precariously placed nests to feeding areas. Both parents, who mate for life, care for the young.
