Hanoi, Vietnam: the P-15U Termit (NATO: SS-N-2B Styx), a variant of the Soviet anti-ship missile developed by Raduga in 1965, features folding wings and a central ventral fin for compact storage in smaller launchers. It has a cylindrical body, delta wings, liquid-propellant sustainer with solid booster, 40 km range, Mach 0.95 speed, 454 kg shaped-charge warhead, and guidance via INS with active radar homing. Mass: 2,300 kg; length: 5.8 m. Vietnam People’s Navy and coastal defence units operated P-15 Termit on missile boats, corvettes and shore batteries as their main Soviet-era anti-ship weapon for decades.

During the Vietnam War, Laos was bombed in an attempt to interdict traffic along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Over 2 million tonnes of ordinance was dropped on the country over a 9 year period. Making Laos the most heavily bombed country per capita in history. Over a third of the ordinance remains unexploded, with 20,000 people being injured since the war ceased. Here we see unexploded ordinance (UXO), recovered from the countryside in Laos. It remains so prevalent that locals now risk their lives to obtain it for scrap metal.
