Bodie, California is an old gold mine town located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The town’s people left making Bodie a ghost town. In the wake of people leaving, the mine machinery was also abandoned and left behind, creating a museum of sorts. Bodie, California is now part of a State Park. Tourists from around the world visit the ghost town every year.

Bodie Ghost Town

Bodie was a quintessential California boomtown, driven by the gold rush of the 1850s. At its peak in the late 1800s, it boasted nearly 2,000 buildings and a population between 5,000 and 7,000. Today, fewer than 200 buildings remain, yet Bodie is still one of the largest ghost towns in the United States. It is designated as a California State Historic Park and a National Historic Landmark, attracting approximately 200,000 visitors annually.
