The yellow-rumped bulbul (Pycnonotus xanthorrhous) is a bird of the genus Pycnonotus in the family Pycnonotidae. It is distributed in Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, south of the Yangtze River basin, west to Sichuan, Tibet, and east of Yunnan in mainland China. It is often found in plains below about 2,500 meters above sea level, valley forests, mixed forests, and secondary broad-leaved forest edges in low to mid-mountain areas. It is also found in shrubs, sparse grass, grassland shrubs, coniferous bamboo mixed forests or bamboo groves, and in bushes near village farmlands. The species' origin is in Yunnan. [1]

Small bird, its average size is 21.5 to 28.5 cm (males) and 22 to 25 cm (females). It weighs between 110 and 285 g (males) and between 150 and 265 g (females). It has a round head, without plumes and the eyes are arranged side by side, in the same plane. The eyebrows are white and the eyes are yellow. The coloration is earthy, mimetic, and may present plumage in rusty tones caused by purple earth soils (adventitious coloration).
