$Bees are flying insects, known for their important role in pollination. They belong to the order Hymenoptera, of the superfamily Apoidea, subgroup Anthophila, and are related to wasps and ants.\n\nThe best known representative is Apis mellifera, from the Old World, created on a large scale for the production of honey, propolis, royal jelly and poison. Bee species native to the Americas and Oceania are known as stingless bees (ASF) and have a stunted sting, therefore being less aggressive.\nThere are over 25,000 known bee species in seven recognized biological families. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, in every habitat on the planet where insect-pollinated flowering plants exist.\n\nThere are bees that live socially in colonies and there are also solitary bees, both very important for the environmental balance.\n\nThey are adapted to a nectar and pollen diet, the former mainly as an energy source and the latter mainly for proteins and other nutrients. Most of the pollen is used as food for the larvae, which has defined them as a herbivore insect, but recent studies may force a reconsideration of this scientific position, classifying them before as omnivorous, since the nutritional importance of the microbial proteins existing in the inside the same pollen.$
