An Insect House, Bug Hotel, or Insect Hotel is a manmade structure created to provide shelter for insects bugs and creepy-crawlies. Many of these constructions are used as nest sites by insects including solitary bees and solitary wasps and some are specifically designed to allow the insects to hibernate, notable examples include ladybirds, or ladybugs. Insect hotels are popular amongst gardeners, particularly fruit and vegetable growers due to their role encouraging insect pollination of the fruit, vegetables and flowers. Most are constructed from the likes of logs, drilled with holes, bamboo canes, large stemmed grasses or straw and fir cones.
