Brazilian Flounder (Paralichthys brasiliensis) - Marine fish
Flowery Flounder or Peacock Flounder Bothus mancus occurs thoughout the Indo-Pacific region in a depth range from 3 to 150m, inhabits sandy bottoms of coastal coral reefs, generally in shallow, max. length 51cm. The species hunts mostly at night, but also active during the day, feeding on fishes, crabs and shrimps. Bothus mancus is a left-eyed flounder, like all of the family Bothidae, so in adults, both eyes are on the left side of the body. The eye near the mouth is the original eye, not the migrated one. During metamorphosis, the right eye migrates across the head to the left side and ends up dorsal (upper). The original left eye remains ventral (lower).
