With the advent of radar, GPS and other advanced navigation tools, lighthouses no longer need to perform the same function they once did; guiding ships to safety. Instead, they have been preserved as historic monuments; reminding us of a time when shipping and sailing were more perilous activities. The Point Wilson Lighthouse is located at Fort Worden State Park near Port Townsend, Washington State, USA.

The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. It became automated in 1985, the last station in Washington to do so.
